High Carbon Steel Nakiri Cleaver
High Carbon Steel Nakiri Cleaver
This hand forged blade was made from 1084 high carbon steel. I choose this type of steel because of its amazing ability to hold a sharper edge much longer than common stainless steels. While the high carbon steel takes more to care for, it creates an exceptionally high quality cutting tool.
This knife has a 7in blade 4 3/4 in handle This take on a Japanese style handle features an octagonal (Wa) shaped grip. It is made from a very beautiful piece of stabilized & dyed Curly Koa wood from Hawaii, Stabilized Black Palm, topped with a carved and polished Nickel Silver bolster.
The wood in the handle has been stabilized meaning that the wood blocks (before they were carved into handles) were soaked in a resin for many days, then baked and cured. The resin dries like very hard plastic, making the wood substantially more durable and waterproof.
